You can ingest digital assets without any metadata by choosing this option. This option is great for users who have a large amount of unmanaged digital assets. When you select Start with Media, Odyssey will prompt you to give the import a name.

Choose the categories of the objects you are importing. Use the Control (PC) or Command (Mac) key to choose more than one item type.

Click Next: Upload Assets after selecting the relevant item type or items. This opens a screen where you can upload files by dragging them, pasting them, or browsing them on your computer. This comes with two PDF options:

  1. Split PDFs into pages attached to a single digital asset

  2. Split PDFs into separate page items with their own metadata

All files have been successfully uploaded when the uploader displays completed uploads under the "Asset Name" column on the left. To go to the next step, click the Finish with this Media Type option. This returns you to the list of templates that are awaiting the addition of assets and displays a message stating that your import has been modified. The status of the template should be "Complete."

Selecting assets is the next step. You can choose to manually choose items, select a number of items on a specific page, or select all items in the import.

Click Next: Select Location once the necessary assets have been chosen. Use the "Basic" option if all of your digital assets are part of a single collection and container. Utilize the pull-down choices to set up your collection ancestry structure. Any previously created collections and associated containers are available as alternatives. The generated metadata spreadsheet will have columns representing this ancestry structure.

Basic option for defining ancestry structure.

Use the "Advanced" tab if the imported items are spread across numerous collections and/or containers. You can choose the collection or container type—such as Collection, Box, or Folder—as the final locations for your items. You will enter the precise names of these collections and containers on the resultant metadata sheet. If you enter a collection or container into the ancestry columns and they do not exist in Odyssey, they will be created on ingest.

The metadata related to the uploaded digital assets will subsequently be generated by Odyssey and imported into a spreadsheet.

In order to upload files, go back to the Ingest Files page and select the upload icon once you have finished adding relevant metadata to your Google sheet. The import's progress will be shown. Click the Continue to the next stage button in the top right corner after the import is finished. You will be taken to the error correction page if your metadata contains any problems.

Once your import is finished, after the error-correction phase is concluded, you will be returned to the Import page.
